• Middle-distance focus coming for Jamaican high schools

Two unnamed high schools are to be transformed over time into middle-distance powerhouses.
The athletes will be introduced to a Kenyan-inspired programme that is to be implemented by the founders of Talawahtrack.com, a website dedicated to tracking and documenting the performances of Jamaica's track and field athletes.

Middle-Distance Focus Coming For Jamaican High Schools

Two unnamed high schools are to be transformed over time into middle-distance powerhouses.

The athletes will be introduced to a Kenyan-inspired programme that is to be implemented by the founders of Talawahtrack.com, a website dedicated to tracking and documenting the performances of Jamaica's track and field athletes.

Athletes from the selected schools will be exposed to a middle-distance philosophy that has been imparted to some of the very best distance runners in history, including former 800m world recorder Wilson Kipketer and current holder David Rudisha.

Simon Bowen, one of the founders of Talawahtrack.com, revealed their intentions at a media briefing at the Knutsford Court Hotel yesterday, saying the "national middle-distance training manual" he has developed is similar to the one used at the St Patrick's High School in Iten, Kenya, a school that has produced the aforementioned greats, among others.

Bowen, who attended St Catherine High School and competed successfully at the collegiate level representing George Mason University in the 1990s, is partnering with Baldwin Samuels, who decades ago began recording the performances of Jamaican athletes after being inspired by Merlene Ottey's early success. Veteran journalist Laurie Foster and Gordon Tapper are the other principals.

Thanks Sass, Mr Freddy McGregor was there to give us big boost, for which we are great full, he had the place rocking with at least 6 hits.

We have to correct an oversight, so the site is temporally down.

The launch was a success, again, many thanks to all who view Talawah, now Talawah Track.
