Jaheel Hyde is the reigning World Youth 110m hurdles champion. He became the first Jamaican to medal in the event at the championship, doing so in 13.13. His time fell just outside the 13.12 World Youth record set by Wilhem Belocian in 2012. He has now set his sights on winning the gold medal at the next World Junior Championships, which will be held in the United States.
The versatile Hyde, who is a former national Under-17 striker, also scored 20 goals for the Heroes Circle-based Wolmer's Boys' in last year's ISSA/Manning Cup competition.
Shamera Sterling has been regarded as one of most talented young netball players in Jamaica. The 17-year-old defender played an instrumental role in helping Jamaica's Under-21 to win the bronze medal at the World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, last August. The lanky defender was also a member of the senior Sunshine Girls' side that finished fourth in the World Fast5 Championships which was held in New Zealand in November. She also guided The Queen's School to the 2013's ISSA All-Island title and is expected to play a vital role for the Sunshine Girls in the tri-nation series against New Zealand and England in January.
Ryan Miller is a former national Under-17 representative and has been recognised as one of the most outstanding junior football players in the country. At 17, he captained St George's College to the semi-finals of the Manning and Walker Cup competitions, respectively. The tough-tackling defender, who currently represents National Premier League outfit Cavalier in the Kingston and St Andrew (KSAFA) youth leagues, is expected to play a vital for the Jamaica Under-20 team in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) qualifiers this year.
Striker Junior Flemming led Jamaica College (JC) to the ISSA/Manning Cup and Olivier Shield titles, respectively, in last year's schoolboy football competitions. He was the top scorer in 2013's Manning Cup competition with 21 goals. He was also captain of the Jamaica Under-17 team which narrowly missed out on a place in the FIFA Youth World Cup tournament. The highly rated striker currently plays for Tivoli Gardens in the KSAFA youth leagues. He is expected to return to lead JC's defence of their titles this year. Flemming has been touted by many in the footballing circle as the next captain of Jamaica's Under-20 team, which is down to participate in upcoming CFU qualifiers.
Yanique Thompson was Jamaica's top female junior hurdler for 2013. The talented Holmwood Technical athlete captured the gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles at the World Youth Championships in fine style when she ran a World Youth-best 12.94 seconds in Donetsk, Ukraine.
The 17-year-old future Olympic champion is the reigning national Class Two girls' champion. She also competes in the 100m and is expected to lead Jamaica's charge at the next World Junior Championships, which will be held in the United States.
Zara Bailey emerged as one of Jamaica's top junior female swimmers in 2013. She won gold for Jamaica at the Carifta Swimming Championships last April in the 200m individual medley event. The 18-year-old Bailey also competed at the 2013 World Swimming Championships which was held in Barcelona, Spain. Also competing in the 400m individual medley, she is poised to do great things for the Jamaica.
