  • Piechart analysis of drug usage

A very good post taken from Willi's site nextdoor:

A very useful piechart analysis of drug usage

Jamaica dominated the headlines for drug usage in sprinting during the 2013 annual season. Looking at an analysis of the actual violators on a national basis, a whole different picture becomes evident.

Jamaica does not even register in the 1 percentile.

One would think that the reports emblazoned in the leading British and US press news houses would be based on the logic of research and facts.
This research shows not only did the major news houses in those First World countries fail to publish facts but they also failed to research broadly before publishing.

As an example, if there is a source that makes a statement that cannot be verified, the logical progression would be to look at similar accusations and compile a numerical value by grouping then publish an analysis based on deduction.
Anything else would be gossip and slanders the accused unjustifiably.

The findings here show the patterns over the past 12 months and as I had said incessantly during those months, these publications are wrong.

WADA followed suit and even led the publishers with impulsive and unfounded statements based on assumptions and accusations.

    NOTE: NO JAMAICA!!!!!

As recently as this week, WADA president Sir Craig Reedie announced adding hair follicle sampling to the plethora of testing already employed by WADA.

Is this the best Sir Craig Reedie can do to justify his presidency?

There is already a blood testing registry in place. That is the most accurate drug testing science on the planet.

There is a urine sampling procedure in place.

There is an isotope screening procedure applied to select samples for specific gravity of content properties.
All this is traced over a history and remains in a stasis for later testing comparison.
A virtual biometric passport of the athlete.
I will submit that for the purpose of storage and retesting, the follicle is easier .
The funding WADA has must be unlimited for this step to be taken.
It serves no purpose other than spending more money.

What bothers me is the cost to be inflicted on the nations that will be forced to add this most expensive and redundant test to the blood passport already in enforcement. Additionally, my research shows that follicle sampling requires urine sampling to validate it.
Does that mean that an additional urine sample will be taken prior to executing this proposal?
    "Hair Testing:
The technology behind the hair test was pioneered by Psychemedics Corporation. When drug metabolites are circulated in the blood, they enter the scalp's blood vessels and are filtered through the hair. These metabolites remain in the hair and provide a permanent record of drug use. About 50 strands of hair are taken and dissolved in a series of solvents. The laboratory then analyzes the liquified sample using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectometry. This makes it a highly sensitive test, yet the considerable cost and prolonged process means that it isn't often used. It also usually requires a confirmation drug test using urine."

I wonder if Sir Craig Reedie knows what constitutes WADA's testing protocols? Or does he know what hair follicle testing is about?
Maybe he doesn't know that WADA already has blood sample testing?

Whatever it is, Sir Craig Reedie doesn't seem to know what he's doing!

Wada could test for drugs using hair samples, says Sir Craig Reedie

Athletes could soon be tested for drugs using hair samples according to Sir Craig Reedie, the incoming president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).
Briton Reedie revealed that a £6m fund from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) could lead to new testing techniques to catch cheats.
Currently athletes are tested using blood and urine samples.
"Now we will look at different approaches such as, can we use a lock of hair?" Reedie said.
Traces of some drugs can last longer in hair than blood and urine and could improve testing.
"This new fund from the IOC will create tremendous opportunities for advances in anti-doping and allow our scientists to look at alternative approaches to sample testing for banned substances," Reedie said.
"This is a really exciting development and means we can look at approaches that in the past have been unaffordable."
A Moscow testing laboratory for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics had its Wada accreditation suspended recently, but Reedie, who takes over his role on New Year's Day, confirmed that provisions have been made.
He added: "There will be a very well-staffed and functioning satellite laboratory in Sochi and a group of foreign experts are helping resolve the problems in Moscow."

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
