        Boycott what?

When was the last time we stood up for anything of principle?

SEVERAL OF Jamaica's top junior athletes will once again journey to New York next month for the second staging of the Island Games, dubbed 'Caribbean vs United States'.

National 100m junior record holder Yohan Blake and World Youth medallist Schillonie Calvert head a list of junior athletes selected for the Games to be held on June 10 at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, New York.

Senior athletes, Commonwealth Games silver medallist Kenia Sinclair and Dorian Scott, are also listed to participate at the meet, which will see a special citation made to the pioneering 1964 Kingston College team that initiated the entry of Jamaican teams to the Penn Relays.

The list of athletes invited to this year's games were selected from the recently completed Junior Trials for the Carifta Games and the Grace Kennedy/ISSA Championships.

            Re: Penn Relays Boycott

TJB is doing well and they have clout. I have seen Irvin Clare and Lance Clark in action, thet are excellent managers and negotiators, much better than the folks who run Air Jamaica

This year they announced at the reception at Jamaican Consulate in New York in April 2007 that they paid the Ramada Inn ($20,000?) to move airline crews across the street to Motel 6 in order that more Jamaican Teams would be under the same roof. When you can ask a hotel for 146 rooms that request carries a lot of clout.

Irwin Clare also announced at the reception that TJB is now a sponsor of the Penn Relays. Personally, I would prefer to see TJB spend our donated money on Airfares than give it to the Penn Relat. However, there are benefits that come with sponsorship and Irvin knows what he is doing. TJB also got the Penn Relay to give priority to Jamaican's for a section of the North Stadium for Jamaican's, that is clout.

We Jamaican's have a long history of inciting change in North America. Perhaps TJB is in a position to voice whatever concerns the Jamaican coaches would like to raise. Has anyone made any effort to contact TJB? I will suggest TJB that they that the read the posts on this site.

                Extremely interesting.

Have met the main persons: Irvin Clare - The Vision-man, bad spokesperson (does not know when to give up i.e. never gives up), Vincent HoSang - Vision-man, the money-man & workaholic and Anton Tomlinson - spokesperson, salesperson and workaholic. These guys get along very well and have been working together for quite a few years to support our Jamaican Athletes.

The coaches would do well to take up your suggestions and have these guys go to bat for them.
