  • A threat to National Security

With all the recent stories that have been circulating in the international media about JADCO's shortcomings and insinuating that there is a national program of cheating, I think this entire episode warrants some mention in the House of Parliament. This should be treated as a serious threat to Jamaica's national security as the systematic and the malevolently driven negative press is doing serious damages to the name Jamaica. Jamaicans have worked long and hard throughout the years to develop and cultivate whatever good images of our little island. Our livelihood depend upon on our easily recognisable international images which are being systematically and methodically destroyed. Just examine the chain of events starting with Dick Pound's visit to the island earlier this year, and how the sequence of events have snowballed into WADA's pronouncements today at the conference in South Africa. It is not coincidence that Jamaica was selected as the sacrificial lamb to the slaughter. The Government of Jamaica should recognise this and treat it as a credible threat to our economic earnings, especially as it relates to our Tourism industry. This threat comes down to Public Relations and Jamaica's ineptness at it. By recognising that such a threat exist, then the government, by the way of Parliament, should earmark the necessary funds to not only immediately upgrade the and fix the shortcomings of JADCO, but also hire a crisis management company to fix our bruised images. If it is not recognised as a serious threat, due to our naivety, it will continue to get worse like a nasty sore.

    Now you talking my language.

You have to respond to attacks in today's fast paced media world even if the claims are considered ridiculous to those with the relevant information to know better. Ask John Kerry. If some people need fe get fired to fix the problem, well so be it.

Preaching that "dem bad mind and grudgeful" to echo chambers in Jamaican communities online and in the diaspora will not cut it.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
