Asafa Powell has started training with a new coach at a private location. Powell, who held the World 100m record three times, between 2005 and 2008, trained with MVP for some 10 years. He left the Club recently.
“Nothing yet, just doing some stuff, so when everything is settled, you all will know,” Powell, who was asked about his new training base and coach told RJR.
Since Powell’s positive test in June, MVP’s coach Stephen Francis said the athlete would have to drop key members of his team before he would be welcomed back in the training group.
However, Powell has decided to stay with manager Paul Doyle, so to former training partner Sherone Simpson, who is now training in Florida with Loren Seagrave at the IMG Academy.
Powell, since then, has been linked to Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake and Warren Weir Racers group and Michael Clarke-coached Akan. It was said the sprinter was turned down by Glen Mills Racers Group, but he denied it.
“That (Racers) was never in the picture at all. That switch, no no… I was never planning to make that switch,” he said.
