MOSCOW, Russia, (CMC) — Bahamas and Jamaica athletes are expressing confidence of taking the men’s 4x400m title at the 14th IAAF World Athletics Championships.

Veteran Bahamas quarter-miler Chris Brown says, despite missing a member of the team, which won the Olympic title in London, they will be ready.

“Our reserve guys are hungry and just as good, so we look forward to step on the track and putting on a performance,” said Brown, the only one of the three Bahamians in the 400-metre heats to make the semi-finals.

Brown won his first Olympic gold medal in the 4x400m relay with Demetrius Pinder, Michael Mathieu and Ramon Miller. They beat the defending champions the United States in the final at the London Olympics. Brown was speaking following the heats of the men’s 400 metres on Day 2 of the World Championships.

The Bahamas team will come from LaToy Williams, Ojay Ferguson, Jeffery Gordon, Michael Mathieu, Ramon Miller and Wesley Neymour.

Jamaica’s quarter miler Edino Steele was more confident, saying his team can even come away from the World Championships with a gold medal.

“I believe if we go 2:57 we can take it. We have to come together and set the right order for us to progress and win. I have no doubt that these youngsters who have nothing to lose because they have been through all of that already. These young guys don’t have the will power to quit so I’m just hoping and I know they will progress and do well in the relays,” he said.

Javere Bell, Javon Francis, Omar Johnson, Steele, Rusheen McDonald and Leford Green are in the Jamaica 4x400m relay pool.

Merritt in 43 plus shape on flat 400, these guys are really dreaming, bah barely got one guy into final and Ja none in final. USA has to drop the baton to lose this.

In fact, the Bahamas had NO runner in the 400-meter final. Their best chance, Chris Brown, failed to make the final.

At last year’s Olympics they had two guys in the final.

The Bahamas might have had a slim chance to get silver this year in the 4x400-meter relay, but with Demetrius Pinder (last year’s second leg) not in Moscow because of an injury, and with their anchor man Ramon Miller seemingly injured (watch his heats and you’ll see why I say this), the Bahamas is not a serious medal contender.

In Jamaica’s case, someone is surely dreaming (lol)! This 4x400-meter relay gold will be returned to the USA, one can safely say.

I don’t expect a medal of any color for either Jamaica or the Bahamas.

Maybe we can sneak bronze, but Belgium and DR are tough! Poland and Trini too.

Thanks Historian, wasn't absolutely sure,I knw we ad none but I thought one bah,an gt through.

In fact USA probably needs to lose the baton to miss out on gold, someone is going to have to steal that baton mid relay to have a chance.

Unbelievable, Bahamas did not even make the final, haven't they made this same mistake recently.

Just saw the Bah race, that anchor leg must have partied too much last night. That is definitely a discipline issue there or he had some kind of problem. There is no way that should have happened like that, bizarre. Bahamians should be very mad!
