MOSCOW, Russia:Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce believes she is primed to break new ground as she gets ready to start her 2013 IAAF World Championships campaign inside the Luzhniki Stadium on today's second day of competition.
Fraser-Pryce, who has won the last two Olympic 100m title as well as the 2009 World Cham-pionships since bursting on the scene before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, is looking to join world-record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49), Carmelita Jeter, 10.64 and Marion Jones, 10.65.
Her current personal best stands at 10.70 and Fraser-Pryce, who won 100m gold and 200m silver at last year's Olympic Games in London, wants to break into that sub-10.7 club, but knows very well that only the proper execution of her races will get her there.
"This is the year to do a lot of things," Fraser-Pryce told The Sunday Gleaner. "10.70 is my personal best and if I run a personal best here I will go 10.6 seconds, so I'm just focusing on what I need to do to get there."
"My coach has always said that it's about performance and not about outcomes right now; once you perform and execute the way you ought to then the times will come ... ," Fraser-Pryce added.
The athlete, who finished fourth at the last World Championships after a troubled season, where she was plagued with injuries, added that she is focusing now on executing and sticking to her instructions.
Improved strength
"I am focusing on the execution because I know that if I run the race the way I am supposed to and the way my coach tells me to, then I will do great things," Fraser-Pryce said before underlining her improved strength and fitness heading into this season.
Fraser-Pryce is the fastest woman this year in the 100m with a time of 10.77 and is also the fastest in the 200m with a season's best time of 22.13.
She has won five of her six starts in the 100m and four of her six 200m races this year.
