  • Congrats uTech - 4*100 men's Win at Penn!

We have had so much success these past seven years that something that for a long time seemed unattainable has been achieved and we take it like almost nothing significant has happened.

We now see tertiary institutions competing well at Penns and that is the real fundamental change that will cement our new success and institutionalize the missing leg in our national track and field program for a long time to come.

I remember back in the days of Cast how hard Dennis Johnson was pushing to develop something out of nothing, I remember talking to guys like Rohan Wade who was running some great times back in those days, this was pre1986 he was running 10.4s don't sound too fast now, but a runner training in Jamaica that was as good as it got and he wanted more but it was guys like Wade that laid down some of that foundation and was one of the early guys in the success of that program.

Again congrats uTech, also women's 4*4 also excellent achievement, saw GC Foster place as well I believe, great progress.

DJ had to work mostly with the 2nd and 3rd tier athletes as the best ones had taken up scholarships abroad. There's every reason to think he would have prepared world-beaters had our Champs stars gone to CAST.

Wade was quite fast, ran as fast as 10.2 locally I believe. Also those early CAST relay teams were the first local teams to break 40.0s and they did it without any Champs stars. It was clearly an early indication of what was possible.

Don't forget that UWI won the mens sprint medley at Penn. They have developed a decent program as well.
