West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels scored an impressive 126 against Bangladesh in the 3rd One Day International of the five match series which was played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, in Mirpur.
Samuels who played patiently for most of his innings scored his 4th and highest ODI century of 126 to help give the Windies a series saving win against a very confident Bangladeshi outfit.
Samuels was awarded the man of the match award for his exploits with the bat and even dedicated the knock to Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller, who was instrumental in resolving the impasse between Samuels’ country man and team mate Chris Gayle and the West Indies Cricket Board earlier this year. Samuels, said “…Not worried at all about running out of partners, it was a good team effort from our side. Experience in crucial situations helps as well and that is where I was able to pull it. Bangladesh is playing wonderful cricket and we will look to step up the gear. Dedicate this century to my prime minister!”
Samuels was supported by Keiran Powell (43) who brought over his test form to help the Windies reach the 228 runs required to win the match. Earlier Sunil Narine 4/37, Permaul 2/40 and Sammy 2/46 helped to dismiss the hosts for 227.
The Windies coaching team will not be all too happy with the performance of the team who gave away some 26 extras, 18 of which were wides. The concern for the regional team remains with the fact that their potentially explosive batsmen are yet to arrive at the party, which is now 3 matches old. The Windies will need to win the remaining 2 matches to clinch the series.
