The Government and Athletics Kenya (AK) have been asked to put in place measures of restricting foreign athletes training in Kenya. Team Kenya athletics head coach Julius Kirwa said this will protect the country’s runners from learning Kenya’s tactics.

I hoped they would not go this route but not surprised. Lets see if they follow up on it.

JA would probably be tempted to do the same if we feel threatened. Look how some people did a talk bout Delano Williams from Munro. Imagine if couple more Caribbean youth start come JA schools and challenge us in a few sprints at Champs.

They should try to make some money from their knowledge and expertise instead of trying to hide it.

We cuss Carl Lewis when him promote basically the same thing about international athletes attending US colleges, its no different really. Just a reversal in roles.

The Kenyans have a very good point but maybe the mode of action needs some thought...so what if there's a flood of school boys/girls start attending Jamaican schools from the Caribbean and we get beaten over and over....school for thought. Now imagine all the top sprinters coming inside Bolt and Asafa's camps.. (sm hv already with varying success)....
While money is to be made, need to know WHO is making the money vs petty cash. One can argue that Mo Green and Ato didn't get the same level of coaching...just saying....

Kenya opens inquest on poor Olympic showing

Kenya's under-fire Olympic team received a tumultous welcome home from family and friends on Wednesday, even as the government announced an inquest on the poor showing at the London Games.
Sports minister Paul Otuoma said a full report on the performance of the athletes at the games, where Kenya finished 28th overall in the team positions, will be made public after the enquiry is completed.

I have no issue with other Caribbean athletes attending our schools, once they pay their way. But i am sure many Jamaicans would, as they do with Delano.

My main argument is that if the Kenyans point is valid then so was Carl Lewis when he spoke about the need to restrict international students dominating NCAA track.and field.

There's always international students at NCAA but they were not ALWAYS dominating...now a broad group from different countries are...Lewis has a point, as did the Englishmen when the stop offering contracts to West Indies en masse - their cricket improved (ours declined), in football similar thing happening as well...

Thing is once you have a global sport, it's difficult to get nationalistic...in the final analysis, free enterprise will reign...look at the Chinese Swimmers...look at the US sprinters with Jamaican coaches b4 BALCO....look at the Australian cricket coaches export and English and now even West Indians....

Once we regard T&F as a professional sport, non a dem can't stop it....just hv to lure 2 bigtime coaches....or even like I said b4 Coaching assistants....or flag wavers like Maudib....

Agreed. However there should be a way to get more national benefit from the expertise developed even while exporting it. We haven't figured out how to do that in any area that we have excelled in yet.

The question though - why is it when INDIVIDUAL Jamaicans succeed we look for the NATIONAL largesse? TO what extent was it a national effort to produce these coaches and athletes?? When coaches taking money out their pockets for bus fares, lunch money etc. no one is there to support them, when athletes borrowing spikes - same thing.
So maybe - the Clubs need to raise the level with their programmes. It's one thing to coach a superstar or a talented athlete but what can you do with mediocre talent or fine-tuning potential winners. Of course all this takes money....
