Track and field is therefore still an "amateurs" game if you take into consideration the number who must be striving to attain a top ten ranking... but, best they give it a shot in their twenties and hopefully with a degree behind them they have something to fall back on.

Our athletes who choose to stay home and train need to ensure that they have a plan B, really should be a Plan "co-A" to coin a term, for a post track career.

people often talk about Basketball and football but it maybe easier to make a life out of track than basketball and football base on the limited amount of pro teams and players.

For most of these sports it is safer to get a scholarship. If you don't make the draft then it is hard to make a living, while for track you if you are decent and have an agent you can run some meets and make a little thing.

is it 15 grand a year? Ask the second tier players who are trying to make the NBA or some playing in Europe. Tell me about the X-College fooball players who didn't make the NFL. With Track like any other sports you can hold a part timer as Dorian Scott did and still compete. Shelly completing her degree and still manage.

Shelly must have shoe contract...if you run sprints for US & Jamaica and qualify for Worlds/Olympics you cannot be making $15,000/yr...impossible...plus if you run for a club they pool money...nuh suh it go?

Consistent top 10 in sprints kicking about 75 to 200 based on this article. In us that may not be a lot but anywhere outside of developed countries that is probably a sweet alternative.

Basketball now has some decent options if the NBA doesn't work out. Top players in Europe make more than a million euros a year.

That is true, but most of the players leaving college going to Europe is not going on a huge contract, instead they have to pack a bag, go and play a season or two and establish themselves.

I have seen a few give up after a year or so and come back and hold a regular job.

Thanks...as we all thought 'monkey money' when compared to that made by the top professionals in many other sports.
