BIRMINGHAM, England:
The MVP track club earlier today thanked the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) and the Jamaica Olympic Association(JOA) for approving the delayed arrival of a number of their athletes to the team's official pre-Olympic camp at the University of Birmingham.
Through a message on popular social media platform Twitter, the club expressed gratitude to the JOA and JAAA after some of Jamaica's biggest stars Asafa Powell, Shelly-Fraser-Pryce, Melaine Walker, Bridgetter Foster-Hylton and Kaliese Spencer did not report to the camp up to late Sunday evening.
Olympic team manager Ludlow Watts told The Gleaner yesterday that the athletes were expected to report to the camp today, but reports that the team group will now arrive in Birmingham on Tuesday was followed by this message:
"We thank the JAAA/JOA for their understanding and more importantly approval of the arrival dates for our athletes to the JA pre-Olympic camp."
The JAAA and MVP have had their issues relating to pre-championship camps and it took the intervention of the IAAF at the 2009 Berlin World Championships to reinstate the likes of Powell, Fraser-Pryce, Walker and Shericka Williams after the JAAA had originally requested that they be removed from the list of competitors following their failure to report to camp.
