FALMOUTH, Trelawny - Cricket World Cup (CWC) banners might not be hoisted between Falmouth and the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium, unless Trelawny Parish Council officers get complimentary tickets to the opening ceremony of the world's third largest sports extravaganza.
The banners, meant to enhance the route, have been in the island for some time, but the organisers say they have been waiting on a fee waiver from the parish council in order to put
    them up.
But Falmouth mayor, Jonathan Bartley, said yesterday that there was very little chance of that happening against the background of the local organisers' failure to give his officers complimentary tickets.
Bartley said his officers had worked tirelessly alongside the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the CWC, but when he called about complimentary tickets, he was told there
    were none.

But the LOC's communications manager, Pauline Nelson, said yesterday that she had no knowledge that courtesy tickets were being distributed by persons in the town. "I have no knowledge of that," she told the Observer West.
Furthermore, she said, the president of the West Indies Cricket Board had written to the mayor extending an invitation to him to which he should have replied.
But Bartley said yesterday that a bearer had brought an invitation letter to his office, to which he gave a verbal response after enquiring if he could.
The entrance to the 60-acre, 10,000-seat multi-purpose complex will host the final of four warm-up matches - West Indies vs India - tomorrow, giving way to the staging of a Caribbean spectacular to mark the opening of the tournament.
In the meantime, according to Nelson, the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has finally granted the waiver on the banners which they intend to start putting up in Kingston, where several matches will be held at Sabina Park

There is a bigger problem here. If they are due the wavier they should get it, not because you like them, they did you a favour or if your are gettting something in return. So what to say you wanted x a mount or this or that. If on principle they should get the wavier then council should vote on providing the wavier, not just the mayor... only in jamaica but then again a suh the site run.

What's wrong with thispicture - are his officers working tirelessly for FREE - or are they getting a salary, paid for by the taxpayers of Jamaica. Man stop acting like a stubborn mule, grant the waiver, mek the people dem put up the banners and mek the place look PRETTY!! cause right now, it look ugly and BARE!!
