Sorry, I wasn't watching today. I was watching the first leg relegation match in the Bundesliga. Fortuna Dusseldorf of Bundesliga 2 won 2-1 at Hertha Berlin of Bundesliga 1.
I had to ask my friends in Frankfurt about how much money was at stake. Hertha Berlin recieved 13.2 million Euros in TV revenue this season, and Fortuna Dusseldorf got 5.2 million Euros. Bundesliga 1 gets two-thirds of the TV money, and Bundesligsa 2 gets one-third. Teams are paid on a sliding scale based on points over the past four years.
So, if Fortuna Dusseldorf should win this playoff, they will recieve an extra 8 million euros in revenue next year, more if they do well in the big time.
Bayern Munich at the top of Bundesliga 1, got 25 million euros. Hansa Rostock, last in Bundesliga 2, got 3.8 million.
Tomorrow is the first leg relegation match between Bundesligs 2 Karlsruhe and Liga 3 Regensburg.
