  • Steve Mullings banned for life

Jamaican sprinter Steve Mullings was given a lifetime ban from athletics when the disciplinary panel met this afternoon at the Jamaica Conference Centre in Kingston.

The overseas-based Mullings was found guilty of an anti-doping violation by the three-man disciplinary panel of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO), last Thursday.

However, sentencing was postponed until today pending receipt of a document from the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) outlining the specifics of a prior violation by Mullings.

The 28-year-old had previously tested positive for testosterone in 2004 and served a two-year ban.

Not surprised at the decision at all but he could still get off at CAS as there were too many loop holes in the evidence here.

So if there are loop holes why are they putting him away?

Maybe they feel they have to send a message and the gaps were on their side as well.

One form was marked 8:30pm when Mullings did not go for his test until 10:30pm plus they could not say where the sample was for two days, while it took three days to get to Canada so there is the chain of custody as well.

Mullings' team wanted JADCo to bring the perosn who did the test in Canada but they forgot they had their own perosn there watching the process

Now Terrelonge, lead defence attorney, is claiming the disciplinary panel members are not scientists and do not what effect the drug has on individuals.

            He sounds desperate.

He says he will bypass the JADCO appeal process and go striaght to CAS, which is what Mullings suggested he should do.

            Good luck!

If chain of custody is an issue how can the man be convicted?
