Steve Mullings found guilty

Jamaican sprinter Steve Mullings has been found guilty of a doping offence at a hearing looking into his positive test of a banned substance at this year's National Track and Field Championships in June.

Mullings was found guilty by the three-member panel of Lennox Gayle, Peter Prendergast and Japheth Forde at the Jamaica Conference Centre and will now be banned from athletics for life.

Mullings did not appear in person at the hearing and had his sworn affidavit thrown out by the panel.

Mullings previously failed a drug test during qualification for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, after higher-than-normal levels of testosterone were found in his system.

As a result, he was slapped with a two-year ban and his results between the middle of 2004 and 2005 were wiped from the records.

Just spoke to him, says he is going to CAS. Been following the hearing and there were too many inconsistencies and he could be cleared on technicalities.

Of course. Do you really wish the worst? Don't you have a sliver of humanity for others? Sad because it seemed as if he had such promise....sad because it's a Jamaican athlete, sad because others will be labelled....

He tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in 2004 and got two years.

The story was that he used to see this girl who was an 800/1500m runner and they were both coming back for Trials for the first time in years and so she had sent him several 'threats' that she was going to kill him with you know what.

So he got his sister in Falmouth to buy a few bottles of roots tonic and he drank that so he could stand up to the challenge and that caused the positive reading.
