The similarities are obvious, especially in the way he caresses the ball through cover or thumps it over long-on with a flourish. Far from being irritated by the comparisons, Bravo said he was "honoured". "He is definitely my role model. I play my natural game and look something like Lara but nevertheless I know that emulating him will be difficult - to achieve what he has achieved. Hopefully, I will finish with the sort of record that some of the great players have."

Darren Bravo up 14 places in world batting rankings

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — Gifted West Indies batsman Darren Bravo has moved up 14 places in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen following the third and final Test against India in Mumbai.

The 22-year-old Trinidad & Tobago left-hander now sits just outside the top 20 in 21st position, thanks to his knocks of 166 and 48 in the match, which ended in a thrilling draw on Saturday.

Veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who did not play in the Mumbai Test because of injury, remains the highest ranked West Indian at number 10, jointly with another left-hander, Graeme Smith, the South African captain.

India spinner Pragyan Ojha has broken into the top 15 of the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers for the first time in his career following a high-quality performance in the same Test.

Slow left-armer Ojha took seven wickets in the match, including six for 47 in the second innings, and as a result has earned himself 11 places on the rankings and now sits in 15th place, just ahead of Australia’s Peter Siddle.

The news is not so good for Ojha’s teammate Ishant Sharma, who has slipped three places to 20th position after taking just one wicket in the match.

Meanwhile, India have closed the gap on England at the top of the Reliance ICC Test Championship table to seven points after the series win over the West Indies. India, who are ranked six places above the men from the Caribbean, gained one ratings point for the 2-0 series win and moves up to 118 ratings points, compared to the 125 points of England.

West Indies remain on 88 points despite the defeat, reflecting the weighting given when teams lose to those who are higher up on the table.
