I get it I-man, he's still very special just not THAT very special anymore... he's looking human now at least in the 200m... it is POSSIBLE that another human could beat his times in this generation... very scary indeed for the other competitors as it look like JA have the sprints lock up fi di next decade...
YES! Records are made to be broken and in some case where there are out of the realm of what we thought possible, like the women's 100/200m times, some one will come along and break them eventually.
Some records stay because they are so way out like the last two Long Jump World Records and some stay because the succeeding crop of athletes are just not that good...like the long jump.
As for the four minute mile...Roger Bannister was the first but I am sure as any student of the game will tell you it was only a matter of time, given the advance in the science and technology of the sport.
Bannister ran on shingle tracks and heavy shoes and cotton shorts and top, look what we have now? We even have pace setters which I think should not be allowed for record purposes

Great point Peter R, maybe you need to tell that to your neighbour. Every record on the books, even the 10.49 seconds that Flo-Guy ran, that was in my mind drugged up and hurricane aided will fall one day, maybe not right now but it wont stay on the books for ever...technology (legal and illegal) is getting better and people are learning how to run a lot faster and more efficient every day
