Kirani James joins professional ranks

DAEGU, South Korea - Newly crowned World 400m champion Kirani James has joined the professional ranks. The Alabama University student opted to forgo the last two years of his college eligibility to sign with Nike.
The two-time NCAA champion, who after one professional race, which saw him beating several big names at the Diamond League Aviva Grand Prix in Crystal Palace by running a then world leading time of 44.61, won the world 400m title in Daegu on Tuesday. He ran a personal best 44.60 to beat American LaShawn Merritt (44.63).
The 18 year old confirmed the move during the World Championships in Daegu after months of speculations.
"I went Pro the ending of the season (NCAA), and it is going good so far," he told Trackalerts.com.
"The main thing about it is that my schooling will be taken care of, so it is a win, win situation," he added while saying his parent and coach thought that was the best for him right now.
