Mills expects big haul

DAEGU, South Korea: Glen Mills, former head coach of Jamaica's senior teams and current coach of Jamaican superstar Usain Bolt, is expecting the team here in Daegu to pick up right where they left off in Berlin at the last IAAF World Championships in Athletics by winning a bag full o' medals.
Jamaica mined 13 medals in Berlin (seven gold, four silver, two bronze) and the highly respected Mills, who also conditions Yohan Blake and formerly coached the likes of Kim Collins and Raymond Stewart, believes that the team is well equipped to better that performance this time around.
"I certainly expect the Jamaican team to repeat the performances of Berlin; we should repeat all that we did in Berlin and even do more," said Mills.
Mills, who for the first time in over 22 years, is at a major event as a coach for individual athletes and not among the national team's coaching panel, went on to speak of his expectation of the athletes here who are part of his University of the West Indies-based Racers Track Club.
"I am looking forward to a very successful World Championships for our athletes from Racers. We have about 11 athletes from Racers here who are members of the Jamaica team and we are expecting positive performances from each of them," said Mills.
Other notable Racers Track Club athletes in Daegu include Jermaine Gonzales, Rosemarie Whyte, Wilbert Walker, Josef Robertson, Mario Forsythe, Marvin Anderson, Schil-lonie Calvert and Shereefa Lloyd.
When asked about his methods of coaching, Mills responded: "Coaching for me is a job, a passion, a love; when I go out there to work, I put everything in. There is no great secret, we all learn the same methodology and so on, but the application, dedication and hard work have been the hallmarks of my success."
