Dear Editor,
I am wondering if any of your readers might know of any fan page or link to help me trace James C Beckford, 1996 silver medallist in the Atlanta Olympic Games.

I am still fairly young - 26 - but back in 1996 I was only nine and I got the chance to meet James Beckford in an Orlando apartment complex where he used to live. As a little boy I was amazed at how nice he was, the way he carried himself and the way he trained. He let me house-sit for him one day while he was out training.
I'll never forget that day or the day he showed me his medal from the Olympics and told me I could do what I wanted. James C Beckford might not remember me or that story. However, I just wanted to say thanks to him, because I tell that same story to the four kids I have now to let them know it's not where you come from or what your name is, but if you want something badly enough and train harder than the next person you can walk away with something nobody else has.
But that's my story. For 16 years I've shared it and not once since the day I moved out of the apartment complex in Florida have I got a chance to say thank you to a man who befriended a child for whatever reason it might have been, and made a lasting impression on me and gave me a story to share with my children who will know of him.
