    MIRAMAR, USA - Adaira Levy got Jamaica’s medal hunt off to a good start on the first session of the Pan-American Junior track and field championships here in Miramar, Florida when she took second place with 55.79 metres.
    Canadian-born and resident in Georgia, United States, Levy, who was third at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures Senior Trials last month was overjoyed with her medal.
    "I don't consider myself Canadian at all, I always wanted to compete for Jamaica, my country," she told reporters.
    'I cant be happier," she said, despite throwing almost six metres under her personal best of 60.60m.
    ;
    This was her first junior international medal for Jamaica and also established her as the National Junior Record holder.
    Levy, whose parents Dane and Karrol were born and raised in Jamaica, will compete in the shot put later today.
    Meantime, Natasha Morrison and Celia Walters have qualified for the women's 100 metres finals later today and Odail Todd ran a personal best 10.46 seconds to qualify for the men's 100 metres final.
    ;
    Everton Clarke, who ran a personal best 10.51 seconds, was fourth in his semi-final heat and failed to advance.
    Despite finishing fifth in the first semi-final, Javere Bell is through to the finals of the men's 400m.
