Carl Whyte, a Jamaican who teaches high school in Maryland, rallied to survive his first elimination challenge and is one of four golfers remaining on THE GOLF CHANNEL'S "The Big Break-Indian Wells."
In a two-hole stroke play elimination, Whyte hit his first tee shot on a par 5 into a bunker, then failed to get out of bunker with his second shot. After playing out with his third, Whyte hit a 280-yard fairway wood onto the green and salvaged a bogey 6 . Robbie, his opponent, and roomate, made a par 5.
On the second hole, a par-4, Whyte hit his approach shot to within inches of the hole for a birdie 3. Robbie three-putted from 50 feet for a bogey 5.
The eventual winner gets cash and prizes worth $65,000 and a place in the 2012 PGA Tour event in New Orleans.
