I wonder if Usain would make this list if we had more details of his contracts?

if BOLT was more liked in the AMERICAN market it woulda happen

him fi keep doing what him doin but at the same time TRY TO GET A cross ova in a US cuz like it or not thats where the money is for the most part

but one of the problem he is going to face is that he is seen as competition to them BUT i think he can break that barrier

You realise that track and field athletics is not even in the top 10 most watched sport in the world, right?

While Bolt is the break through athlete in the sport, it will take more like him over an extended period to drag track and field out of the backwaters of global sports

There is an article somewhere that says Messi is the highest paid footballer.

Was it referring to earnings from football or total earnings?

Nonetheless while these lists are useful as a general reference, I get the impression that they are somewhat biased towards athletes in North American professional sports becuase, well, all sports lists compiled in the US are, and also because I really don't think they spend a lot of effort figuring out all the earning streams of someone like a Bolt or even some of the Indian cricketers. I saw a list that had Dhoni making about US $10 million in a year some time ago and Tendulkar not far behind.

How popular can a track and field events be when most events are over in a few seconds or a few minutes? Imagine pay top dollars to see Bolt run the 100 and the race over in 10 or 20 seconds.
The same type of thinking that created a problem cannot be used to solve the problem.
