Gayle blitz sets up Royal Challengers victory

Chris Gayle produced another stunning batting display to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore seal a 4 wicket Duckworth Lewis victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The West Indian launched a blitzkrieg, scoring 38 runs from just 12 deliveries to hand the Royal Challengers the advantage after they had been given a Duckworth Lewis adjusted run chase of 102 from 13 overs.
Despite being at the crease for only 2.3 overs, the big hitting opener smashed 6 fours and 2 sixes to leave the home side needing just 59 runs from 62 balls.
Faced with a tricky run chase, Gayle dispatched the opening over bowled by Brett Lee for 16 runs before Jaidev Unadkat conceded 23 in the next over as Gayle gave the Royal Challengers the perfect start.
Even though Gayle’s blitz was ended by Lee in the 3rd over, the damage add already been done thanks to the West Indian who reduced the Royal Challengers run rate from over 8 an over down to just 5.79.
Despite losing Luke Pomersbach (16) and Virat Kohli (15) in quick succession, the home side cruised towards victory thanks to AB de Villiers (9) and Mohammad Kaif (15) who shared a 4th wicket stand of 23.
Although the home side lost Kaif (15) in the 11th over and Arun Karthik (1) quickly after the Royal Challengers cruised to victory in a rain affected match to seal a place in the IPL play offs.
The Knight Riders innings was held up for over two hours because of heavy rain and once play got back under way they were given just two more overs in order to set the Royal Challengers a tricky run chase of 102 from 13 overs.
Yusuf Pathan led the way smashing Virat Kohli for a six and a boundary but the Royal Challengers kept control of the game thanks to Charl Langeveldt who removed Pathan (36) in the final over, restricting the Knight Riders to a total of 89-4.
Jacques Kallis got the Knight Riders off to a quick start thanks to two boundaries in the opening over off the bowling of Zaheer Khan as the visitors looked to gain the early momentum.
Despite the bright start the Knight Riders innings was derailed in the space of 19 deliveries as the visitors top order collapsed in just over three over as they lost three quick wickets.
Eoin Morgan (2) was the first to go after he was caught by Luke Pomersbach at square leg in the 3rd over after he tried to flick Zhan through the leg side.
Kallis followed 8 deliveries later after he edged a delivery from Langeveldt through to wicket keeper Arun Karthik to leave the Knight Riders 21-2.
With the top order stuttering Gautam Gambhir could only last 9 deliveries before he cut Sreenath Aravind’s third delivery of the match straight to AB de Villiers who pulled off a diving catch in the covers to remove the Knight Riders skipper in the 6th over.
Having lost three early wickets the pressure was firmly on the Knight Riders but the visitors fought back thanks to Yusuf Pathan and Manoj Tiwary who shared a 4th wicket stand of 39 before heavy rain forced the game to be delayed for over two hours.
