JASON Morgan, Jamaica's national record-holder in the discus throw, has sent a signal that he could improve on his personal best this year after having his best ever opening throw.
The Louisiana-based athlete had a best throw of 61.80m, his best season opener ever and his second best throw of all times, while competing at the Cowboys Relays at McNeese State University in Louisiana last Saturday.
This mark is second only to his national record of 62.95m set in 2007 and is the eighth best throw in the world so far this year.
Morgan, who was selected but did not participate in last year's Commonwealth Games, told the Observer he was confident he would achieve at least the B standard for this year's IAAF World Championships in Daegu of 63m.
The Central American and Caribbean Games gold medallist said his programme was scheduled to see him peak for the late August event.
