St George's, 3 other schools could miss 'Champs'

    Monday, March 14, 2011

MONTEGO BAY, St James — St George's College may have to be content with any events they won at Saturday's 35th staging of the Gibson Memorial Relays after they failed to meet last Friday's deadline for entries for the 101st staging of the GraceKennedy Boys Champs set for later this month.
Four schools, including the North Street-based institution, failed to make it in time for the noon deadline and could be on the sidelines looking on when the event gets underway on March 30.

St George's are two-time winners of the event — in 1914 and 1925 — and were seventh last year, scoring 46 points.
Another Corporate Area school, Norman Manley High, along with Annotto Bay High and Garvey Maceo, also failed to make the deadline, the Observer has learned.
George Forbes, competitions co-ordinator of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), organisers of the event, confirmed that the schools had failed to make the deadlines and he was doubtful they would be allowed back in.
The deadline for entries was Thursday and Friday.
Forbes did admit, however, there was a small glimmer of hope, but it would be dependent on the president of ISSA, Dr Walton Small to make that decision.
"I don't know if he (Small) would want to make that decision," Forbes said. "That's a lot of responsibility given the precedence we have set in the past with this type of situation," he added.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.

Gwaan laugh...those 40 to 50 point going to be redistributed and could affect the outcome of Champs. JC maybe was in line to win before this screwup and could be negatively affected by it.

Yup - Things tight - 50 points can make the difference between 1st and 4th place.

                        ?????

                        I dont follow.

You doubt that 50 foalting point can make a different in an obviously closely run battle?

On a serious note, I feel it for the seniors who will miss their last Champs.
