I would even argue that although Sachin is to me without question the greater batsman given his being so brilliant for so long and having been much more consistent and reliable, at the peaks of thier individual careers Lara was more brilliant.

There is the 400, the 375 and a famous 277 (?) in Sydney.
This is probably a repeat but... while doing commentary Michael Holding and Geoff Boycott ( I believe) were bantering; Lara reputedly said that the Sydney innings was his best ever and so when his daughter was born he named her Sydney in honor of that achievement. Holding then said , good thing it wasn't in Lahore...
In terms of quality I tend to agree that the Sydney innings was the best one. Then there was the 240-odd at Sabina he made when the WI were about to go 2 down against England.
At the regional level I always remember one he had against JA with Walsh and company, 160-odd mostly with the Trini tailenders, the total T&T score was something like 230.
