  • Gay beats Carter in 2010 fastest man showdown

American Tyson Gay beat Jamaican Nesta Carter in the showdown of this year's fastest men at Wednesday's 60th edition of the Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia.
Both sprinters presently share the title of 'world's fastest man of the season' so far this year with 9.78 seconds.

Again, Carter led the field for the first half of the race, but after joining him at the 60m mark, Gay powered home to take victory in 9.92, a meeting record.

Carter was second in 10.07 while American Michael Rodgers finished third in 10.14. Michael Frater placed fourth in 10.17.

Gay, who admitted that Carter pushed him, said: "I wanted to run a PR, but I made a lot of mistakes in my race."

In the women's 200m, Marshevet Myer took the event in 22.94, beating Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas (23.08) and Cayman Islands' Cydonie Mothersille (23.55).
American Natasha Hastings came out on top in the women's 400m, running 51.35 for the victory. Her compatriot Debbie Dunn, Jamaican-born, was second in 51.75 ahead of Denisa Scerbova-Rosolova (52.31).

Shericka Williams, World and Olympic silver medallist, was fourth
