FORMER world number one-ranked heavyweight contender Donovan "Razor" Ruddock is planning on coming out of retirement and has his goals set on one of the major alphabet titles.
Once one of the most feared boxers in the heavyweight division, the name "Razor" Ruddock would drive fear into any who dared to call themselves contenders amongst the big men.
His trademark invention, the "smash", was one of the most devastating punches in the game and has put many a boxer to sleep. The "smash" is a highbrid of the left hook and uppercut.
The St Catherine-born Ruddock is best remembered for two epic battles with Mike Tyson, where Tyson declared: "The man kicks like a mule".
Ruddock has held the Canadian (twice) and the International Boxing Council (IBC) and WBA Inter-continental heavyweight titles. He has, however, never fought for a major alphabet straps and he wants to correct this.
His record stands at an impressive 37 (ko 28)-5 (ko 4)-1 and he won his last 10 fights (nine by stoppage). He was last in the ring in 2001 when he knocked out Edgerton Marcus for the Canadian heavyweight title.
Work in the hills of St Andrew has seen him shed some 80 pounds to be now in the region of 220 lbs and the now slimmed-down version of "Razor" says he also feels as strong as a lion.
He says he has added the right hand to the "smash" and wants to clean up the heavyweight division. What's more, Ruddock wants to fight in his native Jamaica.
