Newton Marshall has passed through the final checkpoint of the Iditarod sled dog race in Safety, Alaska at 3:47 pm Alaska time. He is in 47th place

The next stop is the finish line in Nome, 22 miles up the Bering Sea coast line from Safety. The trip from Safety to Nome takes about 3 1/2 hours.

He should be done by now, but no official word yet, 22 miles at even 6 mph is less than 4 hours, he took off from Safety at 3:48 so he should be done if all went well!

He's done according to his website twitter feed. He has some real good times between checkpoints comparable to the top 10 mushers congratulations to him

Karl, Mo we should hang that picture somewhere on this website frontpage ofr a few days at least. This is an unusual and incredible achievement, one that we probably will not see another Jamaican achieve in our lifetime. Talk about dedication, sticktoitiveness, the man is nothing short of incredible.

Congratulations to Newton and to all Jamaicans who see yet another example of finishing what you started, after 1100 miles and -40 degree weather throughout.
