FRANCIS... underwent several surgeries in a bid to save leg

    1/1
PAUL Francis, a founding member and assistant coach of the MVP Track and Field Club, has had his right leg amputated just over three weeks after sustaining injuries in a car accident on Highway 2000.

The Observer has confirmed that Francis, the younger brother of MVP head coach Stephen Francis, underwent the surgery to remove the leg (below the knee) last Saturday at the St Joseph Hospital in East Kingston.
    He is now recuperating.

It is understood that Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Warren Blake, who serves as second vice-president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletics Association, was a member of the operating team.

Prior to the amputation, it is understood that Francis underwent several surgeries in a bid to save the leg, which he injured in a road accident on February 3.

The coach had injured (broken) the same leg in a previous car accident just over two years earlier.

It is reported that the accident occurred along the St Catherine leg of the Highway 2000 when the car in which Francis was travelling was struck by another vehicle.
