ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) - Daniel Bailey has credited a move to Jamaica and a link-up with coach Glenn Mills for his transformation into a world-class sprinter.
BAILEY... I'll
stay with coach Mills until my career is finished The 22-year-old from Antigua & Barbuda noted the difference in his approach to preparation for events that has resulted in him earning a fourth-place finish in the final of the men's 100 metres dash at the World Championships last August in Berlin.
Bailey said working with a top-class coach like Mills and alongside outstanding sprinters like Usain Bolt has helped him to become more professional in his attitude and approach to the sport.
"The stuff that I was doing in Antigua is totally different from what I'm doing in Jamaica," said Bailey in an interview on the website of the sport's world governing body, the IAAF.
"First of all, I wasn't doing any gym work in Antigua, I was only training three days per week, and I wasn't taking any supplements, so by coming to Jamaica and training six times a week, taking my supplements, and having a solid gym programme, that has changed everything completely."
He added: "The training in Jamaica is solid. Ever since I got there I've been learning a lot of things from coach Mills, and I think he's a fantastic coach. I will stay with coach Mills until whenever my career is finished.
"It's good for me because I know to myself that Usain Bolt is the world's fastest man, and I know he can help me in certain ways, so I try to use that in training and in competition, and I'm doing a fantastic job so far."
Bailey has his sights set on making an impact at the World Indoor Championships next March in Doha.
"I know that the next year coming is going to be a different Daniel Bailey because I know that I'm going to train real hard and with a different mentality," he said.
"I'm really looking forward to the 60 metres dash to at least win a medal. I've started training already, so I'm looking to get ready for the World Indoors in Doha."
Bailey also indicated he had the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, on his radar.
