Agent says Bolt is the highest paid track star ever

KINGSTON – Usain Bolt is the highest ever-paid track & field professional, this according to the athlete’s agent Ricky Simms.
    Usain Bolt

Simms while admitting Bolt is not making as much as he should, mainly because of the financial crisis, warned that track & field athletes earning should not be compared to those of footballers, golfers, Formula One, and tennis professionals.
“They are sports that traditionally have a lot of money in them.”
“I think Usain is now earning much more than any other track & field athlete has done in the past,” he explained.
“It was very important over the last 12 months that he backed that up (Beijing’s heroics) with good performances at the World Champs in Berlin,” Simms added.
It is being rumored that Bolt is making approximately US$5 million a year off contracts – $1.5 of which is said to come from his shoe company Puma.

However, come next year when his shoe contract expires, talks are that Nike, the leading shoe company, will be going all out after the track star in a bid that could be worth close to US$40 million.
He is said to be earning US$250,000 for appearance, but earlier this month, it was reported that Bolt turned down US$500,000 to run in Daegu, saying he is tired.
From a story just hitting the headlines there is an offer of US$100 million over a five year period from a Chinese firm that could send the super star’s earnings through the ceiling. It is still not certain if the offer will be accepted.

If by Puma's own admission they would have to have paid $350 million to achieve the amount of advertising BOLT gave them then Bolt should not settle for these $40-$50 million contract estimates.
