ZURICH, Switzerland (CMC) - Jamaica's Olympic and World sprint champion Usain Bolt, fresh from his monumental triumphs in Berlin, has arrived in the Swiss capital for tomorrow's IAAF Weltklasse Zurich Golden League meeting.
Bolt will be racing in the 100 metres, where his main competition should come from fellow Jamaican, Asafa Powell
Bolt will be racing in the 100 metres, where his main competition should come from fellow Jamaican, Asafa Powell, the former world record holder.
At the 12th IAAF World Championship which ended on Sunday, the 23-year-old Bolt broke world records in both his sprint victories, a stunning 9.58 seconds in the 100 and 19.19 in the 200 metres.
The Weltklasse Zurich meet is part of the IAAF Golden League series that carries a US$1 million bonus for athletes winning all their series of events.
Bolt, who celebrated his 23rd birthday last week during the IAAF World Championship, is not in the running for the bonus.
Before completing his 2009 season, Bolt is considering racing in China and South Korea in September.
The IAAF is reporting that he will also race in the 100 metres at the Brussels Golden League against Tyson Gay, his main rival at that distance, on September 4, 2009.
Ethiopia's Kenenisa Bekele, who won the 5000 and 10000 metres in Berlin, is the athlete in Zurich still in line for the men's bonus.
He won previous Golden League events this summer in Berlin, Oslo, Roma, and Paris and only needs to win in Zurich and again in Brussels early next month to claim the huge million dollar bonus.
On the women's side, Jamaican Kerron Stewart (100 metres), Jamaica-born American Sanya Richards (400 metres) and Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva are still on the path for US$1 million.
