American watches Bolt's record run at aunt's home

BY PAUL A REID Observer writer
    Friday, August 21, 2009
SHERWOOD CONTENT, Trelawny - American Todd Jones got the treat of his life yesterday as he joined members of Usain Bolt's family to watch the Jamaican athletic superstar break yet another world record when he completed the sprint double at the World Championships in Berlin, Germany, by winning the 200m in 19.19 seconds.
Jones, who is from Las Vegas, Nevada, his sister Marni, who lives in Pennsylvania, and friend Ward Miller, who resides in Washington DC, all crammed into Bolt's aunt Lillian Bolt-Smith's living room to watch the race on television.

Jones says he has been running track for "about 25 years now, since the middle-'70s, so I've been a big fan of track and I just happened to be in Jamaica with my family this week".
He added: "I heard the 200m final was being run today and (thought) what better place to be in the world than Sherwood Content; this is where it started, where Bolt grew up."
Before going to Bolt-Smith's house, however, Jones stopped at the Waldensia Primary School where the athlete attended, and drinking water straight from the tap and hoping he would get some of the same "juice" that powers Bolt's engines.
While expecting Bolt to win, what surprised Jones more than anything was, he says: "I can't believe how much he won by," his eyes wide as he recalled Bolt's margin of victory.
Solidarity is not a matter of well wishing, but is sharing the very same fate whether in victory or in death.
