BERLIN, Germany – Two-time World Championships 100 metres bronze medallist Asafa Powell, who injured his left groin on Sunday, has been declared fit to represent Jamaica in the first round of the 4x100m relay by his agent Paul Doyle.
“Physically he’s OK,” Doyle told the Observer today. “He’s ready to (run the heats) if needs be,” the agent added.
Following Sunday’s 100m final, where Powell clocked a season best 9.84 seconds for third behind Usain Bolt (9.58), Doyle disclosed that Powell was almost ruled out of the blue riband event having injured his groin in the semi-finals.
“He was a little bit sore particularly in the groin after the race, but got treated yesterday (Monday) and it has started to loosen up, so I think he’s going to be fine,” the agent disclosed.
