Parents' pride over Ennis victory
The athlete's family are planning a "big party" to celebrate her success
The family of Jessica Ennis have spoken of their pride after her winning performance at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. The 23-year-old's parents and younger sister watched her become Britain's first world champion in the heptathlon at their home in Sheffield.
Her mother, Alison Powell, said: "That's my daughter up there on top of the podium, the champion of the world.
"It's what she's always wanted and we're so proud of her."
The gold medallist's family said they were planning a "big party" when she returned to the UK next week.
They said her triumph was even more sweet after Ennis missed out on the Beijing Olympics last year due to injury.
'Tremendous performance'
Her father, Vinnie Ennis, said: "She was do disappointed last year to miss out. Now she's come back and it's fantastic.

"Ever since she was a little girl she always wanted to stand on the top of a podium and there she is. I'm just so proud of her."
Her sister, Carmel, 20, said: "She's my big sister and the best sister ever. What more could you want?"
Members of the City of Sheffield Athletic Club - which Ennis joined at the age of 11 - also watched her victory.
Club secretary John Howley said: "It's fantastic, it was a tremendous performance."
On the opening day of the World Championships, Ennis won three of her four events - the 100m hurdles, high jump and 200m - and set a personal best in the shot put.
She held on to top spot after Sunday's long jump, javelin and 800m.
Her personal best of 6,731 points surpassed the World Championship achievements of Denise Lewis and Kelly Sotherton. Former Olympic champion Lewis won silver in 1997 and 1999 and Commonwealth champion Sotherton claimed bronze just ahead of Ennis in Osaka two years ago.
