IAAF: Jamaica asks to withdraw runners from worlds due to continuing speculation on chat boards
By LGA (USYD) – 2 minutes ago
BERLIN — IAAF secretary general Pierre Weiss says Jamaica has asked to withdraw Asafa Powell, a former 100-meter world-record holder, and several teammates from the entry list for the world championships.
Weiss says the request was made Wednesday when the federation finally became fed up with speculation as to whether Asafa Powell was a choker,
"We just couldn't bear it any more. We have the greatest competition in the world and half of the fans think that he is the greatest choker since Monica Lewinsky and the other half think that he can walk on water - and in fact would win the race doing so. We just got sick of all the nonsense that surrounded it so we pulled him from the meet, now, they will never know."
The request could be rescinded because the final entry list has to be with organizers 48 hours before the opening event. The worlds start Saturday.
