Well I don't totally agree. I thought Lloyd went a bit too far by calling the players greedy. Yes the team is crap and they make a lot more money than the teams of the 70s and 80s but so do cricketers all over the world so its not a fair comparison.
That would be like calling a journeyman NBA player on a weak team greedy if he has a problem playing for $200K a season because the greats of the 70s didn't make that much.
If they are not performing and we have better players (which we clearly don't) then drop them. If they are the best we have then by virtue of playing international cricket they should be expected to make a certain amount of money and have the guarantee of some kind of contract."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

huh? is that the ONLY conclusion that you can come to? how about the idea of a WICB did not work and is not ideal in these circumstances?
are we to be doomed to continue with an institution that has outlived it's usefulness? why?!

well are they the 4th best team in the world? your analogy is a bit off though....can the worst team in the league continue to have the fourth highest paid players? how long would that last.

The NY Knicks? LOL.
Its true that at some point thier performance relative to thier peers should have some relationship to what they make relative to thier peers. You would think that would be a basic principle.
Is that one of the main problems why they can't come to agreement on a contract? They think they should be one of the top paid teams?
Anyway, one gets the feeling that this episode will have long term implications for the future or end of WI cricket."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

agreed. as far as i am concerned it is the end of windies cricket...i do not see a solution being reached that will not cause a flare up again within a year or 2.
it seems that the wicb does not deal in good faith..look at the stanford digicel debacle where digicel took stanford to court because of the amateur behaviour of the board.

i think it never worked but because we were winning (mainly because all our top players were playing country cricket) no one noticed...so it has now become, at least in my mind, an inoperable cancer!
it has had the last 25 years to get itself in order and the only thing that happens is that we kept slipping until now...bangladesh out fi whitewash wi!
