The five Jamaican athletes who tested positive for a banned substance are not expected to receive a suspension and should be on their way to Berlin with the rest of the team.
The five, Sheri-Ann Brooks, Yohan Blake, Lansford Spence, Allodin Fothergill and Marvin Anderson, will return to the island by latest Wednesday for a hearing with the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association.
The hearing must be held by latest Friday as the deadline for submission of entries to the World Championships is August 1.
A source told JamaicaWIN.com that if they are able to present a credible explanation of how the substance got into their system, all they would get is a “reprimand” and be allowed to continue their career without a hitch. “I see no reason why the will not be allowed on the team,” said the source. The source said that the substance in question, which is found in many ‘over the counter bronchial remedies’, gives little or no assistance and should be removed from the WADA list.
The Jamaica team will assemble in Nuremburg, Germany, for a one-week camp from August 6-11.
