The problem with our being suspicious about someone based only on thier performance is that it quickly can become hypocritical. We start making pseudo-scientific observations about consistency and the potential they always showed but never realised, etc but never give others that benefit of the doubt.

I pointed the Kerron Stewart and fastest sprinters errors only for the fact that some readers might copy these stats for their own record-keeping purposes, and may inadvertently include the minor errors. Your track and field posts, Jangle, is one of the two or three reasons why I even bother to check this forum regularly.
Keep up informative, relevant postings coming, boss!

I'm saying frequently I see Jamaican T&F fans coming to conclusions about athletes being on drugs based on "evidence" such as a one-off great performance or season, or a significant improvement over a short period of time, yet ignore how the same dubious logic could at times to applied to some of our own. In my view that is not enough to come to a reasonable conclusion about the use of performance enhancing drugs.
When someone uses the same kind of logic against our athletes we generally find reasonable explanations to counter it, but explanations that only those of us with more than a passing interest in the athletes would know about. Of course we don't know or care about other countries athletes in that way so we do what they do, say the best explanation is probably drugs.
I could give examples but would prefer not to, since I am sure someone will decide to interpret in a way I did not intend."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass

i-man, i've been an avid t&f fan for a very long time... when arron ran that fast time, it was questioned not by me or jamaicans but by people all over the world in t&f circles... she had never run that fast before and had never given any indication that she could go that fast... in fact 1998, and 1999 were suspect years for arron... i've never said in any definite terms that she was using... i would never say that about anyone unless its proven... all we can say is suspected... and suspected doesn't go for only foreigners with me... it goes across the board...
with some people you can see the potential for fast times... you see a progression... some will progress faster than others, some will never progress...
further, at all times feel free to give examples of our athletes in your discussions...'to get what we've never had, we MUST do what we've never done'

I Love Trouble, So....

Shelly-Ann Fraser’s Progression:
2008: 10.78
2007: 11.31
2006: 11.74
Christine Arron’s Progression:
2003: 11.01
2001: 11.15
2000: 10.99
1999: 10.97
1998: 10.73
1997: 11.03
Now, compare those two with Kerron Stewart’s progression:
2008: 10.80
2007: 11.03
2006: 11.03
By the way, I love Shelly-Ann Fraser, and in addition to this I do not suspect her of using performance enhancing drug! So, what’s the point of my post? I was simply answering the question you asked Islandman (which I placed in red-bold).

i-man, trouble what trouble... shelly-ann was 22 yrs old at beijing... it is not unusual for anyone of her age to make those improvements with improved coaching... shelly-ann had demonstrated the potential with her quick turnover and lightning starts from a while back in high school...
kerron is also the beneficiary of age... like shelly-ann had demonstrated potential to go fast, except that she had a glaring issue with her start... she has shown a progression based on her potential combined with her age...
arron was 25 yrs old when she made the dramatic improvement in her time... she did not come close to it after when the scrutinity became intense...
again, i am not accusing her of ped use... i am merely highlighting why the argument about her being suspect arose...'to get what we've never had, we MUST do what we've never done'

Apparently drugs killed flo-jo.
Heart muscles grew (along with the limb muscles) and caused cardiac arrest. I hear how she would faint on airplanes when the cabin pressure dipped and how she developed sleep apnea issues.
Old fashioned steroids. Dangerous stuff, eventually improved upon and made safer in later years.
I have NO proof of this, but this is what insiders say.

i am inclined to believe the insiders. i met her sometime in 92/93 and other than the fact that i was amazed at how short she was, the next most noticeable thing was the amount of makeup she wore AND despite the makeup her bristle like moustache was very evident along with what seemed like razor bumps on her chin....

Especially when you compare that image to what she was before 1987 or so.
The only person in recent times that have seen transformed anything close to that was Kelli White. Not quite at the same level but pretty dramatic and Victor Conte has said on record that he had never seen an athlete respond to PED the way she did. He termed her as a hyper-responder."It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men" - Frederick Douglass
