    Former Jamaica cricketer Lawson Matthews is dead.
    The 66-year-old all-rounder died in a Florida hospital on Friday night after failing to recover from heart surgery two days earlier.

    A spin bowler and an aggressive and attractive right-handed batsman, Matthews represented Calabar High School at football and cricket and was a member of the All Schools cricket teams in the early 1960s.

    His All Schools team members included captain Gladstone Robinson, Maurice Foster, Michael Archer, Milton Powell, Mickey West, Robert Scarlett, Norman Barrett and Rudy Cohen.

    Matthews, a member of Kingston Cricket Club and Melbourne Cricket Club, represented Jamaica in 1965 and 1966 before moving to Canada, returning to Jamaica, and then moving to Florida a few years ago. Younger brothers Paul and Denis represented Wolmer's at cricket and football and was also selected to the All Schools cricket team, while older brother Michael is a past president of Lucas Cricket Club.
