NEW ORLEANS, La. (March 12, 2009) - University of Connecticut women's track and field head coach Bill Morgan and assistant coach Clive Terrelonge were named the Northeast Region Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

Morgan has led his program to a No. 13 national ranking this season, the best in program history as he has six entries, including five athletes in six events, in the Division I Indoor Track and Field National Championship this weekend.

Led by Trisha-Ann Hawthorne (Elmsford, N.Y.), who is entered in two events; 60- meter dash and 200-meter dash, the five athletes that will represent UConn is the largest contingent in school history.

Morgan, who was recognized along with his assistant coaches as BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year, won their second straight BIG EAST Conference Indoor Championship title and picked up their seventh straight title with a win at the New England Championship.

"Our team success places Clive and myself in position for these types of individual accolades," said Morgan. "To be honored by our colleagues is always special and it adds to the overall stature of our UConn program. We are very proud of this acknowledgment."

Terrelonge, who is in his fifth season at UConn as the sprints/hurdles coach, has also helped lead the program to its No. 13 ranking in the country.

A two-time Olympian World Champion for Jamaica himself, he has coached five athletes this season on the national list, while ranking two in the top-10 in their respective events.

He also helped lead the team to its second consecutive BIG EAST Indoor title, while being a part of the UConn coaching staff that received BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the second straight indoor season. His 4x400 and 4x800 relays also broke school records.

The nationally ranked Huskies will send five athletes to the NCAA Track and Field Championship to be held at Texas A&M University on Friday, March 13 - Saturday, March 14, where both Morgan and Terrelonge expect great accomplishments from of their athletes
