YHardman Newton Marshall is set to start the last leg of the Yukon 1000 mile quest in a few hours at 00:38 AM Thursday morning (yes right after midnight), weather conditions on the ground look to be relatively mild for this part of Alaska at this time of the year; expected conditions for Thursday morning, a high of 15 degrees Fahrenheit, with wind gusts up to 30 MPH, light snow forecasted, possibly a few inches of accumulation at worst.
Mr Marshall competed a 115 mile leg today arriving at the penultimate stage of the race at the Two Rivers stop at 16:38 PM this afternoon.
He is currently 13th out of a field of 27, eight of the original starters have already bailed out of the race at various stages along the 1000 mile route.
The last leg is 45 miles long and is mostly downhill, there are two competitors about 30 minutes ahead of him who will be almost impossible to catch and another roughly 30 minutes behind, so if all goes well Mr Marshall should hold his position at 13th.
Bets wishes to a man all of us would like to be a dreamer and realist all at the same time, a rare combination.
