Gov't targets Sports-Tourism policy in March

WITH a plan to reap financial benefits from the success of the nation's athletes, the Government of Jamaica has established a committee to formulate a Sports and Tourism Policy by the end of March 2009.

Bartlett... we've been working with international body to guide development of Sports Destination Policy

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett, who made the announcement at last Friday's 48th National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Award function, said Zachary Harding, Howard McIntosh and Dr Carolyn Hayle have been asked to assemble a team of top leaders in the sporting community.

"We have already been working with an international body to give a general guidance to the development of an overall Sports Destination Policy to make Jamaica into an events destination, which is very important," Barlett told the Observer.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Check the thread-starter date. In other words, the grand announcement was made several months after the Beijing Olympics and prior to our even more impressive performance at the Berlin summer IAAF World Championships. Maybe something happened since this announcement was made one year and two months ago and I failed to notice?

On the other hand, maybe the relevant authorities are awaiting further outstanding performances at the 2011 IAAF World Championships or even the 2012 Olympic Games for further steps to be taken in the implementation of this proposal?

      Just wondering….
