Negril to host int'l 100m beach sprint in 2009

    Thursday, October 09, 2008
AS a direct spin-off from the success of its 2008 Beijing Olympic team, Jamaica is set to host the inaugural international 100-metre beach sprint in Negril in November 2009, Tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has announced.

    Complete Story ...

that could be a recipe for hamstring injuries, sprinting barefoot in the sand ove 100 metres i.e. the topless thing qhas the potential for neck injuries of catastrophic proportions.

Is there any sand left on the beach in Negril? Last I heard, the beach was eroding at an alarming rate...

Running sprints on the sand for anyone...particularly sprinters who exert tremendous force during drive phase...and power, lift and extension of stride (rapid turnover while exerting tremendous force/"push") is a good way to get injured. Unfortunately the sand has a propensity to 'give' and 'soak-up/'bruk-up'/'tear-up'' muscles...particularly those of posterior thigh and anterior thigh i.e. "Biceps Femoris" , etc, and "Sartonius" & "Rectus femoris", etc
...jus nuh good fi run pan...

Aside: ....although it is used by some I do not think it is a good idea...as there are better ways to build that needed strength conditioning...when the possibility of injury is taken into consideration.

...but in any case why use the pool, river or sea for track athletes? ...unless it is to aid retention of cardio-vascular well-being...while putting little strain on injuried muscles/allowing injuries to heal?

Do not like that what we call "beach training" or "sea training" for track and field athletes! Too great a risk of injuries...plus there are much better ways to 'condition' T&F athletes.

Beach/sea/river/pool as planned part of conditioning T&F athletes waste of time...unless swimming and or being on the beach, etc is just recreational divertion as would be going to the movies and other like 'relaxation activities' .
