At the 2008 Olympic finals for the women's 100 meter dash, Edwards false started.[1] Believing that the officials were going to call the false start she hesitated along with the other American sprinters. As a result the Jamaican sprinters completed a sweep of the 100 meters for the first time in Olympic history with Shelly-Ann Fraser winning the Gold medal with a time of 10.78.[1] Torri finished in 8th place with a time of 11.20, an under-par performance for the American sprinter whom has a best time of 10.78. [1] Edwards states:
“I thought I moved before the gun,” Edwards said. “I kind of hesitated because I expected to hear a second gun. It threw me off a lot. It’s pretty tough.[1]”
