JAAA hit back at Asafa Powell’s coach Francis

    By JAAA Press Release
There is absolutely no truth to the allegations that Mr Stephen Francis will not be able to coach the athletes at the Olympics under his care unless he has taken that decision not to coach his own athletes.
    These are the facts:
Mr Stephen Francis had long indicated to the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (past and present) that he does not wish to be a part of the National Team’s coaching staff.
He was accredited as a personal coach for the athletes under his care for the Olympic Games, as was the case in all major championships including the World Championships in 2005 & 2007. There were three (3) slots allocated to Jamaica for personal coaches/personal trainers and they were allocated as follows:
    Stephen Francis - MVP
    Lance Brauman - Veronica Campbell-Brown
    Jerry Clayton - Maurice Smith
Mr Bruce James of the MVP Club in an e-mail dated July 2,2008 requested us to try to accredit additional members of their support staff , and in order of “importance” Gavin James’ name was given as the most critical. The JOA was unable to secure an increase in our complement for persons in this category and Gavin James of MVP and Everald Edwards (Usain Bolt) were treated as members of our official team to facilitate their being accredited to provide the services of Massage Therapists, there were therefore accrued full benefits such as living at the camp/Olympic Village, meals and access to the stadium.
These gentlemen were provided the final available allotment of personnel in all categories. Please note that we were unsuccessful in providing personal coach accreditations for Kerron Stewart and Delloreen Ennis-London.
The JOA and JAAA secured the appropriate accreditation as a personal coach for Mr Stephen Francis which he refused to accept from our Ambassador to China, Mr Wayne McCook when members of his group and other athletes were met at the Beijing airport on August 1, 2008.

The question that comes to mind is - Should the JAAA from here on out leave MVP athletes off our national teams?

It appears to me that the MVP group does not want to and shall not abide by the rules of the JAAAs. That being the case - What is the point of selecting persons who have made it known that they shall not follow the direction of the JAAAs authorised persons?

I say leave them off from here on out!
I would forget any possible medals that may be won under the conditions wherein the tail wags the dog!

Scratch the women 4 x 100M from my list of "sure" wins. That leaves me with Bolt only in the 200M as a "sure" goal!

Relays cannot be won when there is no TEAM! ...and our MVP female athletes have, by actions said, "wi nuh innah di TEAM business!"
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Karl that is the "nuclear option" that should only be considered when there are absolutely no other alternatives!

            Or rather,
Should the JAAA hurry up and become professional and inclusive?

They have served us reasonably well uup till now, but are clearly anachronistic.

They treat senior athletes like juniors.
